3909.  WHITE, A. H. Methane Synthesis. United States Patent 1,772,652, August 12, 1930; appl. filed Oct. 5, 1925, Serial No. 60,684. Chemm. Abs., vol. 24, 1930, p. 5045.

Gases such as blue water gas which contain CO, H2, and S compounds are subjected to the action of a catalyst comprising Ni on a material largely composed of MgO at a temperature at 230°-760°. CH4 is thus formed and the MgO is converted to MgCO3, and sulfide, which are then dissociated by heat to regenerate MgO.
