PATENT

3907.  WENZEL,W., HEROLD, P., AND GEMASSMER, A. 9Badische Anilin- u. Soda-Fabrik.) [Production of Alcohols.] German Patent 767,223, Mar. 3, 1952: appl. filed Apr. 2, 1943 (Cl. 12 o). Chem. Zentralb., vol. 123, 1952, p. 5814.

Alcohols are produced by reacting CO and H2 under pressure and in presence of carbonyl-forming metals as catalysts with carbonaceous compounds containing olefinic double bonds and reducing the resulting products. O2-containing organic compounds and products containing olefins are used as the raw materials. The have been obtained by the reaction of CO and H2 at < 250° and by aid of catalysts of the Fe group, preferably Fe and under raised pressure, preferably medium pressure. The alcohols thus obtained are mainly branched chain.
