In producing oxygenated compounds by the hydrogenation of CO in presence of Fe catalysts at raised pressure, the low-boiling products are separated by adsorption or absorption agents which are them regenerated by steam. After condensation of the steam and the low-boiling synthesis products, the aqueous layer of the condensate is treated for the recovery of the oxygenated compounds by distillation or extraction.
