Hydrocarbons are catalytically decomposed with H2, CO2, O2, or air or mixtures of these into a mixture of H2, and CO or H2, CO and N2 by heating in the presence of a catalyst containing a metal of the Fe group and burned Al2 (SiO3)2 or kaolin and Ni(NO3)2 or MgO are used.
