Synthetic crudes from the Fischer-Tropsch reaction are treated with a mixture including oil, and alkali metal sulfonate, and an alkali metal hydroxide to remove oxygenated organic compounds. The mixture is diluted with H2O and cooled to 80°-400° F. to cause phase separation. The hydrocarbon phase is distilled to obtain fractions free of oxygenated organic compounds including ketones. 1 foreign patent and 2 United States patents cited.
