PATENT

3846. ----- [VOORHIES, A.] (Standard Oil Development Co.). [Production of Synthesis Gas by the Catalytic Conversion of Hydrocarbons With Steam and carbon Dioxide.] French Patent 978,834, Apr. 18,1951; appl. filed Jan. 11, 1949. Chem. Zentralb., vol. 123, 1952, p. 4714.

O2 contained in the added steam and CO2 should essentially exceed that in the end gas. An essential part of the CO2 is added at that point in the conversion column where the temperature is about 650°-704°. At this temperature CO2 and CH4 are added in the proportion of 1.5:1.7, if a mixture of 1 H2:1 CO is to be obtained. A gas mixture of 2 H2:1 CO requires an initial gas of 0.5 CO2:0.7 CH4.
