3823. VESTERDAL, H. G., AND KONRAD, W.A. (Standard Oil Development Co.). Separation of Straight-Chain From Branched-Chain Hydrocarbons. United States Patent 2,586,889, Feb. 26, 1952.; appl. filed Aug. 23, 1949, Serial No. 111,946; 18 claims (Cl. 196-148).

Normally liquid straight-chain hydrocarbon in a mixture, with at least 1 normally liquid branched-chain aliphatic hydrocarbon and cyclic hydrocarbons, is separated therefrom by contacting the mixture with an activated C prepared by treating acid sludge coke with steam at 1,350°-1,500° F., until a yield of 70-90 wt. % of activated C based on the weight of acid sludge coke is obtained, and then preferentially adsorbing the straight-chain hydrocarbon thereon
