3817.  VESTERDAL, H. G. (Standard Oil Development Co.) [Catalyst for Synthesis of Hydrocarbons From Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen.] French Patent 962,998, June 26, 1950; appl. filed Mar. 10, 1948; in United States, May 29, 1947. Chem. Zentralb., 1950, II p. 2271.

Catalyst consists of Fe oxide and a small amount of a hydrogenation catalyst, such as Cu chromite, W oxide, or PT, with a small amount of an activator in the form of a K compound, such as K2CO3. It is made by mixing 89 kg of red Fe oxide with 5 1. of an aqueous solution of 200 gm, K2CO3 per 1. the mixture is dried in air at 150° and then 10 kg. of powdered CuCr2O4 is added. The product is formed into balls and reduced in a stream of H2 for 4 hr. at 482°.
