Higher hydrocarbons are oxidized to acids or alcohols by solid, liquid, or gaseous oxidizing agents in several reaction vessels, a gaseous current being led successively through the various vessels and supplementary amount of gas being added to the 2d and succeeding vessels. Describes apparatus.
