PATENT

3804. -----. [VEREINIGTE OELFABRIKEN HUBBE & FARENHOLTZ.] [Fatty Acids and Fatty Alcohols.] German Patent 739,570, Aug. 12, 1943 (Cl. 12 o-12). Chem. Abs., vol. 40, 1946, p. 350.

These fatty compounds are produced by oxidation of synthetic, high-molecular, saturated or unsaturated hydrocarbons having boiling ranges above those of illuminating and gas oils. The oxidation is carried out at temperatures >100° , with an oxidizing gas containing molecular O2. The preferred starting materials are the products of the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis. The lighter, more volatile intermediates, which are formed in the course of the oxidation process, are good promoters for the desired degree of oxidation and are retained in the reaction mixture for this purpose.
