PATENT

3803.  VEREINIGTE OELFABRIKEN HUBBE & FARENHOLTZ [Fatty Acids.] French Patent 838,243, Mar. 1, 1939. Chem. Abs., vol. 33, 1939, p. 7820.

Fatty acids obtained by oxidation of hydrocarbons are subjected to purification treatment comprising the steps of blocking the carboxyl groups by reactions depriving them of their acid character, for example, reactions leading to the formation of salts, and heating the salts or other compounds thus formed to temperatures of 280°-360°, in the absence of oxidizing gases, so as to remove their content of oxyacids, latones, lactides, estolides, ester-acids, and malodorous compounds. Heating may be effected in presence of steam, CO, CO2, or N2.
