3794.  VANDAVEER, R. F.  (Stanolind Oil & Gas Co.).  Hydrocarbon Synthesis.  United States Patent 2,626,274, Jan. 20, 1953; appl. filed June 19, 1948, Serial No. 34,147; 5 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).  Chem. Abs., vol. 47, 1953, p. 6123.

Finely divided Fe catalyst is impregnated with 0.1-2.5% of an alkali metal compound.  An aqueous solution of an alkali metal salt of a sulfonic acid having at least 8 C atoms is used in quantity sufficient only to be absorbed by the catalyst.  The catalyst is dried and reduced at temperature > 700° F. under superatmospheric pressure.  Enough surface active material is added to the alkali metal solution to reduce the surface tension of the solution to  < 40 d. per cm.  1 literature ref., 1 foreign patent, and 10 United States patents cited.
