Catalyst for the synthesis of organic compounds from CO and H2 consists of ThO2 and at least 1 metal from Group VIII in combination with an isomerizing and cracking component, mainly SiO2 mixed with Al2O3 and/or ZrO2. The improvement is the addition of the isomerizing and cracking component to the hydrogenating catalyst to obtain high-grade motor fuels.
