H2 and CO are produced by decomposing, under the action of heat, a mixture of steam, CH4, and gaseous or volatile hydrocarbons, such as those contained in natural gases or in gases coming from the carbonization or gasification of fuel. The required heat is obtained by the combustion of a part of the gas to be treated, the circuit of gas to be treated and that of the gases in combustion being separated during the treatment.
