H2 and CO are obtained by the decomposition, by means of heat, of a mixture of H2O vapor and volatile or gaseous hydrocarbons, such as those contained in natural gas or in gases produced in the carbonization or gasification of fuels.  The required heat is obtained by the combustion of part of the gas to be treated.
