Fuel suitable for diesel motors is made by hydrogenating carbonaceous materials such as coal, lignite, coal extracts, and primary bitumen to produce oils poor in H and adding oils rich in H.  The oils rich in H may be obtained by synthesis from CO and H2 or by hydrogenating carbonaceous materials.  Solid bituminous hydrocarbons, such as coal extracts and primary bitumens obtained from coal, may also be added.
