Aqueous Ni and Cr salts (not > 20% as much Cr as Ni), with or without carrier or kieselguhr, asbestos, pumice, are precipitated by adding carbonate or caustic alkali and reduced with H₂ at high temperature; CO and H₂ passed at < 50 atm. and > 90°, preferably at 165°.
