PATENT

3761. ---- [TSCHUNKUR, E., AND KLAMROTH, A.] (I. G. Farbenindustrie A. G.). [Refining Methanol.] German Patent 625,324, Feb. 7, 1936 (Cl. 12 o-5.01). Chem. Abs., vol. 30, 1936, p. 2993.

MeOH prepared from CO and H2 is treated in the presence of H2O with small portions of KMnO4 and ZnCl2. With very impure MeOH, treatment with an organic base of high boiling point—for example, a phenylenediamine or aminophenold, may follow. The mixture is then fractionated.
