3745. THARBON, A. (Lazote, Inc.). Synthesis of Ammonia. Canadian Patent 285,189, Nov. 27, 1828. Chem. Abs., vol. 22, 1929, p. 937.

In the synthesis of NH3 a mixture of N2 and H2 is passed over a catalyst containing oxides of Fe, K, and Mg, which is more active than Fe alone, at a temperature 400°-700°. An Fe catalyst containing a mixed promoter comprising 1% MgO will give 25-30% NH2 under normal synthesis conditions for relatively long periods of time. Mixed promoters comprising Li2O and MgO. Na2O and MgO2, Na2O,and CaO, or K2O and BaO can also be employed advantageously.
