3744. -----.[TEXACO DEVELOPMENT CORP.]  Synthesis Gasoline Hydrocarbons.  British Patent 655, 843, 1951.  Fuel Abs., 1951, abs. 2904.

Mixture obtained by the hydrogenation of CO is separated into a gas phase, a liquid hydrocarbon phase, and a H2O phase, the latter 2 containing considerable amounts of O2-containing compounds dissolved therein.  The gas phase containing normally gaseous products of conversion and unreacted CO and H2 is recycled at least in part to the reaction zone.  The aqueous phase containing mainly low-molecular-weight O2 containing compounds dissolved therein is extracted at elevated temperature and pressure with a hydrocarbon solvent to form a hydrocarbon-rich extract phase containing most of the nonacidic O2-containing compounds and a H2O-rich phase containing low-molecular weight organic acids.  The hydrocarbon-rich extract phase is combined with the liquid hydrocarbon phase, which is initially separated from the products of conversion and which, in general, contains oxygenated compounds of higher molecular weight than the aqueous phase.  The combined phases are fractionated into 2 components, a low-boiling fraction distilling <245° F. and a high-boiling fraction distilling > that temperature.  A substantial portion of the low-boiling fraction is recycled to the reaction zone to effect conversion of the low-boiling oxygenated compounds to liquid hydrocarbons in the gasoline range.
