3736. TETER, J. W. (Sinclair Refining Co.). Amines and Nitriles From Olefins and Ammonia. United States Patent 2,419,470, Apr. 22, 1947. Chem. Abs., vol. 41, 1947, p. 5144.

Amines and nitriles are prepared by the reaction of olefins and NH2 in the presence of reduced Co oxide catalyst. The mixture of olefin and NH3, molar ratio 1:5 to 1:10, is passed over the catalyst bed at 400°-725° F. and 1,000-3,000 p. s. i. pressure. The catalyst which has an active life of 6-10 hr., is reactivated by passing H2 over it at elevated temperature and pressure. When 2 or more catalyst beds are used, the process is continuous.
