3714.  SUMMERFORD, M. S. D.,  (Standard Oil Development Co.).  [Synthesis of Hydrocarbons]  French Patent 953,667.  Dec. 12, 1949; appl. filed Oct. 1, 1947; in United States, Feb. 2, 1947.  Chem. Zentralb., 1950, II, p. 366.

Hydrocarbon synthesis from CO and H2 is carried out on a fluidized catalyst consisting of a catalyst metal, such as Fe, mixed with an inert diluent material, such as sand, which has been pretreated with an acid, such as 3-12 n-HCl..  Equal amounts by volume of catalyst metal and acid-treated sand are used.  The sand serves as a heat carrier and avoids overheating of the catalyst with reduction of C deposition and decreasing efficiency of the catalyst.
