Mixture of H2 and CO in approximately the ratio 2:1 is obtained by alternately blowing the solid fuel in a gas producer with a mixture of steam and O2 and a mixture of steam and a coal distillation gas, for example, coke-oven gas, and mixing the resulting gases in suitable proportion.
