The initial mixture of CO and H₂ is at first only incompletely converted through the use of suitable low temperature and/or through injection of H₂ and/or through use of increased flow velocity or in some other suitable way. The unconverted reaction mixture after complete or partial removal of the condensable constituents is subjected to a new complete or partial conversion. Co catalysts are used.
