Process for producing higher aliphatic hydrocarbons that are solid, liquid, and readily liquefiable, from gases containing CO and H₂ with Fe contact masses or catalysts or mixed catalysts containing Fe, in which water gas or mixtures or CO and H₂ still richer in CO are passed, under pressures of 2-50 atm. or over and at temperatures <320°, over Fe contact masses or catalysts or mixed Fe catalyst that have been produced from Fe salt solutions of precipitation, or by the decomposition of Fe compounds.
