Paraffin, which is solid at ordinary temperature, is produced by passing a mixture of CO and H2 at a pressure of 4-10 atm. and at <250° over a catalyst composed of Co impregnated with paraffin which is solid at ordinary temperature the cavities between the particles of catalyst not being filled and the catalyst being placed so that the paraffin formed drops continuously.
