Molybdenum disulfide is admixed with an alkaline promoter, which is an alkali metal compound having an alkaline reaction, or one which leaves as a residue the corresponding alkali metal oxide on decomposition of the compound.  Such compounds are the hydroxides and carbonates of Na and K carbonate as well as the oxides.  The promoter is used as 0.5-5 weight % of the sulfide.  A carrier may be used.  5 United States patents cited.
