H₂ and C oxides are passed in contact with liquid MeOH under pressure, the gases are heated by thermal contact with the hot gases from the reaction and contacted with a heated catalyst to produce MeOH, the gases are cooled and the MeOH formed is removed, the residual gas is combined with fresh gas, and the cycle is repeated.
