Solid paraffin and waxlike hydrocarbons are obtained from liquid hydrocarbons by conversion with gases containing CO and H₂ in presence of strongly alkalized catalysts containing elements of group 8, the alkali content of which corresponds to 10% by weight of alkali oxide.
