3602. ----- [STEINKOHLEN-BERGWERK “RHEINPREUSSEN”].  [Production of Catalysts.] German Patent Appl. St 59,723, PA 336,742, filed May 24, 1940 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel b-196, frames 970-973; PB 83,253.

This patent application relates to the production of Fe catalysts suitable for the synthesis of hydrocarbons by using compounds of alkaline earths, Mg, Ca, Sr, or Ba that may simultaneously serve as precipitating agents, activators, and carriers.  It has been found that these compounds do not injure the catalysts but rather impart improved properties, increased activity, and extended life to it.  Example: 2 mol. of dissolved Fe nitrate are decomposed with 0.25 mol. Ba carbonate and 1 mol. Cu nitrate and shaken until no more.  CO2 is evolved.  Then 3.1 mol. of soda in solution is added and the mixture boiled.  After washing 0.125%, calculated on the Fe, of K carbonate is added and the mixture dried.
