3600. ----- [STEINKOHLEN-BERGWERK “RHEINPREUSSEN”].  [Production of Antiknock Motor Fuel.].  German Patent Appl. St 60,337, PA 899,335, filed Dec. 24, 1940 (Cl. IV d-12 o).  FIAT Reel B-196, frames 828-834; PB 83,253.

In a process for producing antiknock motor fuel by reduction of CO and H2 to liquid hydrocarbons and with the final polymerization of the gaseous olefins thus obtained, use is made of a straight Fe catalyst with at least 99.5% of Fe (calculated on the amount of metal used) without the addition of S and with simultaneous use of high temperatures, normal or increased pressures, high gas velocity, or recycling.  By the reduction of CO, chiefly gaseous, unsaturated hydrocarbons are formed in the 1st stage of the process, and in the 2d stage these are polymerized to antiknock motor fuel and mixed with the liquid primary gasoline.  By this method, not only is the quantity of gaseous hydrocarbons suitable for subsequent polymerization greatly increased but also the olefin content.  Furthermore, the life of the catalyst is considerably prolonged.
