Synthesis gas is first freed from organic S in the known way, and then the still hot gas from the S purification is freed from resin-forming products at a temperature of up to 300° over polymerizing mediums such as active C or Fuller’s earth.  In this way, the resin-forming substances newly produced in the S purification are removed and thus the durability of the synthesis catalysts is prolonged.
