3568.  STASSEN, M., AND WIRTH,--(I. G. Farbenindustrie A. g.).  [Conducting Chemical Conversions.]  German Patent Appl. --, OZ 13,716, filed Oct. 13, 1942.  TOM Reel 19, item 148, frames 1,711-1,721; Meyer Transl. PC-S-II, Fishcher-Tropsch, vol. 3, ch. 118, 1948, p. 35.

Describes apparatus for carrying out exothermic or endothermic reactions, which require special measures for the removal or induction of heat, with diagram.  It is particularly applicable to the catalytic conversion of CO and H2 to multibranched hydrocarbons with considerable amounts of liquid and solid oxygenated derivatives.  The apparatus is characterized by the use of bundles of horizontal or slightly inclined tubes, closed at one end, and filled with cold or hot liquids for carrying away or for introducing the heat of reaction.  Dip pipes on both sides conduct the cooling or heating liquid into the cold or hot-liquid tubes.  A vaporizing cooling agent and pressures of 8 or more atmospheres may be used.
