PATENT

3555. ----- [STANDARD OIL CO.]  Synthesis of Hydrocarbons.  British Patent 650,794, Aug. 14, 1947.  Ind. Chemist, vol. 27, 1951, pp. 229-230.

Catalysts for the synthesis of hydrocarbons are made of Fe, Co, or Ni microspheres and promoters such as KF or Na2CO3.  Example: Fe spheres made by the metallization process were found to contain 87% of spheres of 80-120μ in size.  They were hollow and of a substantially crystalline structure of Fe3O4.  They were impregnated with 5% KF and used for the synthesis of hydrocarbons by fluidization.  Catalysts less subject to attrition were produced.
