PATENT

3554. ----- [STANDARD OIL CO.]  Synthesis of Hydrocarbons.  British Patent 634,534, 1950; appl. filed Sept. 11, 1947.  Fuel Abs., vol. 7, 1950, abs. 4895.

CO and H2 in synthesis proportions and conditions are contacted with a fluidized suspension of finely divided catalyst.  The amount of catalyst in the suspension is controlled at a concentration low enough to permit conversion and resultant heat release at a substantially uniform rate over an extended path of contact between the reactant gases and the catalyst.  The unreacted CO and H2 are with drawn from the reaction zone and contacted with a dense, turbulent, fluidized mass of finely divided synthesis catalyst under conditions such that substantial completion of the conversion takes place.
