PATENT

3538. ----- [STANDARD OIL CO.]  Production of Gases Containing Carbon Monoxide and Hydrogen From Hydrocarbons.  British Patent 657,585, 1951.  Fuel Abs., vol. 11, No. 1, 1952, abs. 335.

Hydrocarbon in gaseous from is passed upward through a reaction zone kept at an elevated temperature and containing a catalyst bed comprising metallic Cu on a finely divided support at such a velocity that the catalyst remains suspended in the gas in a dense, highly turbulent form.  Meanwhile a quantity of CuO supported on a finely divided carrier equivalent to the amount of hydrocarbon fed to the reaction zone is fed thereto and the product gas continuously removed there from, along with deposited metallic Cu on a carrier material.
