Fluidizable sintered Fe catalyst, resistant to fouling and disintegration, and for use in the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H₂ is prepared by impregnating red Fe oxide powder with alkali-metal salt promoter, for example, K₂CO₃ 0.5-5 wt. % reducing in pill form at 485°-595° with H₂ (750-1,500 atm.) then breaking the pills into granules of < 40-mesh, and sintering the latter at 680°-905° in nonoxidizing gas, for example, H₂ (100-200 vol. per vol. of catalyst per hr.).
