PATENT

3528. ----- [STANDARD OIL CO.]  Oxygenated Compounds.  British Patent 629,915, Sept. 30, 1949; appl. filed Aug. 7, 1947.  Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 4492.

Improved yields of alcohols are obtained by flushing the products of the synthesis aldehydes from olefins, CO, and H2, with H2 before the hydrogenation of the aldehydes to alcohols.  This flushing removes CO and metal carbonyl formed from the catalyst; the flush gases can be used for the synthesis.
