FeO catalyst, suitable for catalytic synthesis of hydrocarbons or oxygenated compounds, is made by impregnating red FeO or other FeO powder with K2CO3 solution or other promoter, drying, sintering in a reduction atmosphere at 1,200°-1,600° F., and grinding.  The resulting catalyst is easily fluidized and has a long effective life.
