PATENT

3515. ----- [STANDARD OIL CO.]  Improved Hydrocarbon Synthesis.  British Patent 653,834, May 30, 1951.  Chem. Abs., vol. 46, 1952, p. 1234.

Oxygenated hydrocarbons are separated from the vaporous products obtained by the hydrocarbon-synthesis reaction H2 with CO.  The vaporous products are cooled to 40°-100° F., and an oil phase and an aqueous phase are obtained.  The 2 phases are separated, and the aqueous phase is fractionally distilled to yield mainly EtOH, PrOH, BuOH, and AmOH.
