PATENT

3504. ----- [STANDARD OIL CO.]. Hydrocarbon Synthesis.  British Patent 657,528, 1951, Fuel Abs., vol. 11, No.1, 1952, abs. 341.

Hydrocarbons and oxygenated organic compounds are catalytically synthesized from CO and H2 by pretreating a powdered Fe catalyst in the form of a fluidized bed with a gaseous mixture containing H2 and CO in a ratio of 2:40, preferably 2:35, molecules of H2 per molecule of CO in a carbiding zone at 500°-800° F. and at substantially atmospheric pressure.  The carbided Fe catalyst so formed is contacted as a fluidized mass in a synthesis zone with a mixture of gases containing CO and H2.
