CO and H2 are reacted in contact with a fluidized bed of powdered Fe catalyst and under a H2 partial pressure in the synthesis reaction zone of 150-275 p. s. i., including the total H2 content of the fresh and recycled gases.  A total pressure is maintained > 350 p. s. i. bur < 800 p. s. i., a temperature of 650°-725° F., and a total gas feed rate of fresh and recycled gases of substantially 10-200 standard ft.3 per lb. of catalyst.
