PATENT

3491. ----- [STANDARD OIL CO.]  fluidized Solid Systems.  British Patent 646,557; in United States Sept. 19, 1947.  Petroleum, vol. 14, 1951, p. 81.

Aim of this invention for use with pulverized coal is to classify the solids into 2 or more fractions of different particle size before feeding to the fluidized bed.  The fraction containing the largest size particles is fed to the upper portion of the bed and that containing the smallest size to the lower portion, and the intermediates are between the two.  The method is explained by means of a diagram.  The method and apparatus are applicable for carbonization of gasification of carbonaceous solids, or a catalytic reaction such as the synthesis of hydrocarbons from CO and H2 in presence of an Fe-type fluidized catalyst.
