3471.   ------.  [SOCIETA ANON. PRODOTTI ITALIANI SINTETICI.]  Catalytic Manufacture of Hydrocarbons and Oxygenated Hydrocarbons.  British Patent 625,841, July 5, 1949; appl. filed Oct. 2, 1946.  Fuel Abs., 1949, No. 5,011.  Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 2205.

CO and H2 are reacted in the presence of a powdered Fe catalyst, which is maintained in the reaction zone in the form of a dense fluid mass in the reactant gases.  The reaction zone is kept at an elevated temperature under superatmospheric pressure.  The contaminated catalyst is withdrawn and conveyed into a separate hydrogenation zone where it is kept under dense fluidized suspension at about 900° F. for enough time to effect removal of at least 80% of the contaminants, after which it is returned to the reaction zone.
