Incoming coal is heated in 1 chamber to 450°-600°. It is then heated in a 2d chamber at 1,000°-1,100°. The CO produced is purified with the aid of Al₂O₃ charcoal. and Fe. The required H₂ is produced by the action of ZnO on a part of the liquid hydrocarbon obtained from heating the coal then by the action of H₂O on Zn obtained in the preceding Step.
