PATENT

3366.  SOCIETÁ ANON, FORNI ED IMPIANTI INDUSTRIALI.  Gas Suitable for Chemical Synthesis.  British Patent 633,718, Dec. 19, 1949; appl. filed Feb. 18, 1947.  Gas World, vol. 133, 1951, pp. 240-241; Chem. Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 4229.

CO-H2 mixture suitable for chemical synthesis is secured by gasification of high-volatile coal in 1 producer, using a mixture of O2 and steam, and by cracking the hydrocarbons in this gas and reducing the CO2 to CO by passing the gas from the 1st producer down through the fuel bed in a 2d producer.  The cracked gases are cooled by the ash bed in the 2d producer.  The bed then serves for superheating steam and O2 when the flow through the producers is reversed.  Coal is fed to the top of the producer that is on the gas making cycle.
