Oxygenated organic compounds prepared from H2 and Oxides of C are refined by catalytic treatment with H2 at 100°-300° and a pressure of more than 50 atm.  The catalysts used are prepared by subjecting salts of metallic acids of the 5th or 6th periodic group to complete or partial reduction with H2S.  Gives examples.
