Products is treated with H2 at 100°-300° under a pressure of 50 atm. or more in the presence of Ni and W sulfides or other catalytic sulfide of a heavy metal of group 1, 2, 4, 5, 6, or 8 of the periodic system of O compounds of such heavy metals, such as Ni thiovanadate, which on heating leave behind oxides not easily reduced under the reaction conditions or oxides or hydroxides of such heavy metals combined with acids in a complex form.
