3333.      SENSEL, E.E., MILLENDORF, A.J., AND BECK, R.A. (The Texas Co.).  Method of Synthesizing Hydrocarbons and the Like.  United States Patent  2,503,356, Apr. 11, 1950; appl. filed July 1, 1946, Serial No. 680,830; 2 claims (Cl. 260-449.6).  Chem Abs., vol. 44, 1950, p. 7516.

In the Fischer-Tropsch synthesis CO and H2 at 390° F. are passed into contact with a catalyst, the major part of which is Co and the minor part Th, essentially free from alkali metal compounds.  The unreacted CO and H2 are passed at 430° F. into contact with a catalyst mainly metallic Co with minor proportion Th containing 5.5 wt. % Na carbonate based on the weight of metallic Co.  The heat liberated by the reaction with the alkali metal-free Co catalyst is used to raise the temperature for the reaction with the Co-Na carbonate catalyst. 1 literature ref. and 8 United States patents cited.
