Carbonaceous contaminant is burned from the Fe catalyst at 1,000°-1,150° F., until the catalyst does not contain more than 30 nor less than 5 wt. % carbonaceous material.  The treated catalyst is cooled to a temperature below the b. p. of H2O.  It is mixed with enough H2O to form a moist, loosely compacted mass.  The mass is sintered at 2000°-2200° F. for 0.5-2.0 min. quenched, and reground.  2 United States patents cited.
